I'm perfectly happy leaving Twitter on a personal level. It's good here.

But I'm worried for institutions, charities, non-profits, that made no contingency plans, massively rely on the channel and are over-stretched as it is. Thinking of the one I left in April!

(I've tried to sub to newsletters and RSS where possible, but not all will.)

Perhaps a group effort, a bit like a hackathon, to make mirrors for institutions, charities, non-profits, campaigns would be in order?

Also, has anybody created a guide to the Fediverse for this audience? Could include best practice from those already here. Energy allowing, I could help out...

@Janetgunter people don’t leave social networks overnight. It usually takes months, not weeks.

@Janetgunter Wee bit of discussion on that at Restart... Main issue is staff cost of maintaining two socials during transition, also there'd be a need for a bit of training on Fedi culture. But worth the effort for us, given the cultural fit.

I think we'll likely kick it off with a bit of manual hand-picked cross-posting of things that make sense, and manual monitoring of replies. Long-term a tool to streamline that would be handy (not an automatic x-poster, something Buffer-ish).

@Janetgunter I'm with a small nonprofit that's been relying on the Face site and the bird site, but last year we started a Substack email newsletter (for free) and I think it works better for us than social media ever did.

@Janetgunter I share your concern about this very thing. A lot of organizations like this for whom I've done digital messaging consulting do not have the resources or agility, necessarily, to just hop from platform to platform.

@Janetgunter also apparently not all servers accept organisations (we would) as users. Something to keep in mind when offering guidance.
