me, personally, I love a Pink Lady but I recognize that Cosmic Crisp is probably the most exciting variety to be made available for general sale in the last 5 years

@darius I don’t know what my favourite apple variety is! I would definitely attend an apple tasting, where I’m given a plate with apple slices and something to cleanse my palette before moving on to each one. Maybe it’d need to be a random selection of all the types of apples, because of how many of them there are. Otherwise it could be a full-day event. Hopefully I’d be offered the opportunity to take some apples home with me afterwards. #Apple

@darius there’s a russet apple we get here in October that’s my favourite. can be hard to find though. Otherwise Empire.

@darius Maybe I'm biased towards my alma mater but I'm a big fan of the University of Minnesota Apple program.

@darius Every year I try a sampling of varieties and am ashamed to perpetually rediscover that my favorites are incredibly basic: Granny Smith for baking and Honeycrisp for eating

@darius Valkea kuulas (apparently "White transparent" in English), and Punainen kaneli (no idea what that would be - "Red cinnamon" perhaps - but it's an old one originating from Russia)

@darius Pink Lady, with Fuji and Gala as runners-up

@darius I'm also team Pink Lady for supermarket apples, but I'm also quite fond of the ones off my Anna tree in the back yard.

@darius I don't know the variety, but these left out by a generous neighbour with an apple tree are nice!

A large container of red and green apples, placed on a wooden folding chair by the street. A piece of paper reads "OTA OMENOITA, OLE HYVÄ!" ("PLEASE TAKE SOME APPLES!").

@darius Granny Smith all the way. Give me that sour. Basically what I want is an apple-flavored lemon.

@darius
Goldrush. Just the right amount of tart

@darius In roughly decreasing order:
- I've become very fond of the Red Prince recently
- a good Fuji is very good indeed
- Honeycrisps are overrated but that's not to say they aren't a good apple
- Cosmic Crisps are fine
- I like the Pink Lady pretty well
- nothing wrong with a Gala; very reliable average apple
- people don't tend to eat Granny Smith apples just as regular snacks, but they're fine!
- don't really care for the Macintosh and its close relatives
- Delicious apples used to be good

@darius
Crimson crisp! Flavor similar to the Winesap, but so crisp you could drive a nail with one.

@darius Probably Cox Orange (= Cox's Orange Pippin). But there are sooo many varieties. See e.g. this list of apple trees available from a single nursery in Denmark:

@darius My favorites are "Golden Delicious" (for many years) and recently I found "Crimson snow" which I really like.
