A good way to discover interesting posts on here is to follow hashtags. When you do this, posts with the tags will start showing up in your timeline even from accounts you don't follow.

To follow a hashtag, just search for the hashtag and then click the "Follow" button.

To check which tags you're following go to your profile and select the "followed hashtags" or # options.

This works on the web interface and most apps.

@feditips I believe there was an update to the official Android app a few days ago in which you can now follow hashtags.

@feditips can't do that on some software, such as GtS (or GoToSocial, for the unknowledged amongst the Fediverse).

@feditips To follow a hashtag, in the search box, put # [hashtag] topic name, like #gardening (which I particularly like) or #knitting (another good one).

@feditips This will be useful up until the point that the hashtag spam becomes unbearable. Lots of people already abuse them.
