If you're @-ing someone on here, it's really important to make sure you've chosen the right person.

Account addresses on Mastodon and the Fediverse always have two parts, the username and the server. Both these parts have to be correct for it to reach the right account.

This is similar to email addresses: you can't just put the first part, you need to include the server at the end too.

To see someone's full account address, look at their profile page. More info at fedi.tips/how-to-use-mastodon-

@feditips In a way lot of feditips are usability bug reports of mastodon the same time. Like having to do lot of clicking, manual pulling, manual checking what could have been done simply by the software.
(Indeed Mastodon in multipane mode is helpfully look the user up but cannot, for example, pull their recent posts.)

@feditips You can imagine how high my eyebrows arched when I read the first sentence as ‘If you’re @%#&-ing someone on here it’s really important to make sure you’ve chosen the right person’.

I would suggest that that is good advice generally.

@feditips If someone is on the same instance as you, though, you only need the first part, right?

@feditips Another great reason to be sure to have a blurb in your profile!

@feditips Does it make sense to write Twitter handles as @TwitterHandle@twitter.com ? If so, what's the use?

@feditips This is an incredibly poor UX design.

@feditips What do you mean, you can't just use the first part of an email address?
