Yep, there has been progress in the last 85 years. No, it's not ChatGPT or any other hype selling "intelligence", just because it can spit out words in nice order after it's been trained on billions of them and having consumed gigawatt-hours to reach stability. Progress is going from "turn a switch" to "flip a switch"; a simpler operation.

Replaced a perfectly functioning 1938 rotary single pole light switch, with a SPST one. What a change!

@65dBnoise On a related note, round rotary door knobs (hard to use with even the slightest functional impairment in your hands, or simply with slippery hands) are still a thing in many parts of the world.
