It's the human condition, the modern technology that's easily abused, and a political system that appears to have aged badly in the environment it itself has created. An ancient problem with only heuristic and temporary solutions.

Of course education helps enormously, but then again, pre-WWII Germany was a high industrialized nation with an educated population and deep philosophical roots but still...

Man, I think about WWII Germany a lot these days.
Five years ago, I took a graduate class on the Weimar era, with a partial focus on how #Nazi culture slowly crept in.

I still don't understand a lot of it. The terrible thing is that I went into that class determined NOT to see any parallelsin modern American/Western culture, and now it's terrifyingly all around me.

It blows my mind even more how churches become breeding grounds for extremist ideologies. ๐Ÿ˜“
