And in FOSS that business domain could be anything! Right.

An important aspect of understanding what UX designers do/are is: designers have to understand *just enough* context of how the software works. They are not experts in this. Neither is the community of users, possibly.

E.g. if you're working in commercial software, you (the designer) are given time to understand what the software is, does, what the user needs, etc.

How does anyone expect a designer, contributing to FOSS in their personal time, to get that level of context from 0? It's very difficult.

This is why I say the community needs to be welcoming first and give the designer time to learn.
