@FrankSonntag @LingMuelller If I remember correctly, we said last time let's ask the community and wait till there is a community. We have a few dozen active users by now, so maybe it is time to ask.

I am undecided. On the one hand science needs nuance and some space may be conducive for better conversations. On the other hand, people (at least I) use the space they get and longer posts mean you can read less posts, making it less like micro-blogging. (I have a blog for long pieces.)

@FrankSonntag @LingMuelller Changing the character limit is not trivial. It needs changes in the code and these changes will have to be repeated each time Mastodon is updated.

So maybe we should also poll how important it is to people.

@VictorVenema @FrankSonntag @LingMuelller IMHO it might be better to write a blog, and share the title and/or abstract as toot. If the topic needs detailed explanation, even 4000 limit may not be sufficient
