For renters, landlords selling up may appear to be bad news, because it will reduce supply, pushing rents higher.

But the exodus of buy-to-let landlords could also mean ’s dysfunctional market is consolidated. Renters might understandably worry, but this won’t necessarily lead to higher prices.
