This is all true, but it's doing a misservice to the public to suggest that the risk is the same.
If you are using a small indepententlly hosted server on Mastodon the likelyhood of the sole admin burning out or disappearing due to life changes is vastly greater.
Yes, you can mitigate those risks by joining a larger server or managing your own. But, I think we need to be clear about the risks of the decentralized module as well as the rewards.
