@feditips yes there is. You tell your friends on said platform you’re moving to a new one and they come along. On Fediverse let’s say Musk buys all the big ones. Can’t he then block any other ones from talking to his. So if I move off Musk’s owner popular fediverses onto a different one but he blocks alll that aren’t his won’t my friends who didn’t move off too be unable to see my messages?

Think about your telephone.

Does any single company control all the world's phone networks? No.

You can choose whatever phone provider you want, move to another provider, move country etc but still make calls to everyone everywhere because all the providers talk to each other.

Email is the same.

This is how all communication networks used to work before Twitter and Facebook tried to take over and centralise stuff.
