I have mixed feelings about how the community / less-structured parts worked at RubyConf this year. (Though I though our session was a lot of fun…)

Yeah, I work for one of those orgs. And out of some combination of hiring really good speakers and internal encouragement, you get a *lot* of great submissions happening.

Not saying you shouldn't see more submissions from outside those orgs. You totally should. But just judging on the merits, you *should* get a lot of talks from those orgs, not least because they hire a lot of great Rubyists who already give great talks regularly.
