Indeed, but how do new people find out which server to join if JoinMastodon.org is down or bought out?

Sites like instances.social aren't really suitable for new people who want some kind of minimum safety and reliability requirements.

Uncurated servers mean new people could end up on an instance that closes down without warning, for example. Or an instance without proper moderation.

@feditips @jan Without suitable onboarding apps for mastodon, I can see corporate tricksters & media diverting new fediverse users to closed sites they have set up. These sites may link to the fediverse, or they may be standalone like that 'Post' platform.
