If you're logged in on Mastodon through your server's website, you can adjust the settings on your timelines and notifications by clicking on the slider icon in the top right corner.

The slider icon is available on the Home, Local, Federated and Notifications timelines. Each timeline has its own set of options.

Note that the Notifications settings menu is very long, you may need to scroll down it to see all the options including Edit notifications.

@feditips Thanks, is there a way to widen the columns in the expanded desktop view? One of the instances I'm on (this one) has rather narrow columns whereas my other account on mstdn.social has, nice wide columns that occupy the entire desktop view

@feditips When I looked there, this is what I found:
Desktop notifications are unavailable due to previously denied browser permissions request
I've no idea what this relates to, how it (apparently) happened, etc. A *lot* of Mastodon is exactly like this for me...and, I suspect, for a lot of other people as well.
