Is there someone you enjoy following, but you want to slightly reduce their presence on your timeline? There are a couple of ways to do this on Mastodon:

- If they share too many posts from other people, you can hide their boosts by going to their profile, clicking ︙ and then "Hide boosts".

- You can mute their own posts for a specific period, select a duration when muting them (it can be from 5 mins to 7 days).

@feditips Didn't know we could hide boosts, that's really helpful thanks! I used to either mute or unfollow.

@feditips And remember, on here, *you* are the algorithm. You're in full control of your feeds. That means possibly a bit more work to get it to feel right, but also nothing and nobody trying to outrage-bait you for clicks and ad revenue :zerotwo_learn::espeon_love:#FediTips

@feditips hiding boosts made a huge difference, as some instances were boosting so much it stressed me out.

@feditips I have toyed with these options too many times. What I want is "let me see 80% of this person's toos." or 70%, or 50%. Let us decide.

@feditips is there a way to block duplicate posts by the same account? There’s a few news accounts I like but they drive me crazy posting the same story dozens of times.

@feditips different client apps may word this differently. For instance @ivory provides Mute (by time period) and disable boosts, which I think might keep them from boosting you. But I am unsure.

@feditips I was just wondering less than 10 minutes ago what the difference between mute and block was. I chose to mute an account which seemed to do the job, but now I know exactly what it does and it was the exact choice I hoped for. Thanks for posting this!

@feditips "How to cancel and shadow cancel/ban people on mastodon which claims to be an independent and open minded platform."
