If you're moving to another server, follow the entire procedure below to transfer both your followers (people who follow you) and your follows (people you follow) to your new account:

This also transfers bookmarks, mutes and blocks. Posts stay behind, but they will redirect to your new account.

Some have been using a shorter procedure which only covers followers, and then been surprised that their follows are gone. Don't worry, you can still transfer your follows!

@feditips I (a n00b) did this while drunk a couple months ago and had some hiccups, but they were very easy to clean up after the fact.

If anyone is worried about doing this wrong or thinks it's complicated, I recommend just diving right in and using all the helpful tools like this one.

I've never used the migration feature because my use case benefits a lot from the redundancy that comes with being on multiple servers. I don't want my social graph to go poof if my home instance has an outage or shuts down suddenly, and I generally recommend everyone be on at least two instances.

@feditips Good tips. Someday there needs to became way to migrate posts, because its entirely possible you are moving because your old server is shutting down.
