You can follow many types of Fediverse accounts from your Mastodon account.

For example, @Iancylkowski is a Pixelfed account, but you can click on it and follow it and interact with it just like a Mastodon account.

Another example, @theatticdwellers is a PeerTube account and you can follow that, watch its videos and interact with them entirely through Mastodon.

This is possible because different Fediverse server types use a common technical standard to communicate, called ActivityPub.

FediTips has moved!

Because different server types talk to each other, it means the Fediverse is collaborative rather than competitive.

When Mastodon's user numbers exploded in 2022, this also meant that all the other Fediverse platforms got a much bigger audience as well. New Mastodon users don't just follow Mastodon accounts, they also follow PeerTube, Pixelfed accounts etc.

Centralised social networks like Twitter, Facebook etc hate this kind of collaboration, but the Fediverse is built upon it.

@feditips @Iancylkowski @theatticdwellers of interest, I run Megalodon for my android phone app, and though I can add my pixelfed account, Megalodon cannot 'see' that account for notifications, it isn't listed. I'm testing other apps like Whalebird and Sengi and currently Sengi can't add Pixelfed accounts.

@feditips @Iancylkowski @theatticdwellers any recommendations for #PeerTube instances one might land on to share #SpokenWord #poetry performances?

@feditips

I love it that you provide actual addresses, which makes it easy to try out the idea. A good example of "If you want a horse to jump a fence, make the fence as low as possible." 🙂

@feditips I just can’t wrap my head around this. I know it’s true. I have a pixelfed account that I follow here but then if they all interoperate then what *is* the difference between a Mastodon account posting photos and a pixelfed account? If they’re all interoperable what makes them unique?

@theatticdwellers @feditips hmm every reply to their videos appearing in Mastodon is just a spam toot from the same instance - tilvids.com
Does that instance not have admins for reply moderation?

@feditips Question, is the contrary possible? Can you follow a Mastodon account from Pixelfed and PeerTube? There should be support for the integration to fully work. (This is by no means a criticism but rather a highlight of a limitation)

@feditips @Iancylkowski @theatticdwellers um but then I find a fascinating person, and want to follow whom they follow. Mastodon tells me they follow 80 people, but I only see 10. This is not all that simple.
