I made a small experiment about the value of linked in connections: a few years ago I wrote in the first line (visible always under the photo everywhere) "please don't send requests here, I don't use LinkedIn since long ago, use my email (email)".

I still receive weekly requests, all of them the default. Not even a letter changed.

Those people that sent those requests didn't even saw my profile or read who was the suggested person. They are button reflexes.

They likely use some metrics dashboard, where you select from keywords that are parsed from profiles.

Gimme "scrum", "Java", "4 years in role", good upvotes on skills, etc.

Then like ad targeting you shove people something 'personalized' through their throat.

I dunno.. just guessing.
