Spent all night tracking down a bug in the @pixelfed app that is causing crashes on startup

While it would be so nice to be able to use a 3rd party service like Sentry to more easily track bugs & crashes, I'm not willing to sacrifice user privacy in this regard

So I will start writing tests and setup a CI pipeline to help catch regressions, while keeping the app free of 3rd party APIs

@dansup @pixelfed I had the bug this morning after update overnight. Multiple crashes when trying to open. Closed off in App Switcher and tried to open again, same result. Switched off iPhone and app back to working as before. It posted some pics then crashed as it refreshed timeline. Web showed the uploaded pics were received properly. Bug hunting is a pain. Good luck and as always thank you for all your efforts!

@dansup @pixelfed how about letting #TeamPixelfed users opt in to sending bug reports via sentry or similar?

@dansup @pixelfed Worth checking if it was posted from iOS Beta. Your app isn’t designed for the next version of iOS, so might be worth seeing if the crash info comes from iOS betas too
