BookWyrm is the Fediverse's answer to Amazon's GoodReads.

BookWyrm helps you keep track of what you're reading, discover new books and publish reviews of books you've read.

There's a built-in book catalogue powered by Wikidata in collaboration with @inventaire

BookWyrm is part of the Fediverse and accounts on BookWyrm servers can be followed by people from Mastodon etc, for example @mouse is the BookWyrm founder's account.

Anyone (except corporations) can start their own BookWyrm server by installing the software, and there's a managed hosting service for people who join the top tier on Patreon (patreon.com/posts/64768354).

I think the latter is something the Fediverse should consider as not everyone has the time to maintain a server.

So what #BookWyrmTips and other advice do ya'll have? Is anyone talking about Reading Groups or anything with hashtags or a.gup.py groups?

This is amazing! Finally an open source answer after 10 years of Amazon buying out Goodreads. I had previously been using Tellico to track books read and thoughts.

@bookwyrm should seek donation pathways outside of Patreon like Open Collective or @Liberapay . FOSS and security enthusiasts will be unlikely to donate on a platform that laid off their entire internal security team. cyberscoop.com/patreon-securit

It's worth noting that, since bookwyrm's license forbids use by "individuals and organizations that operate by capitalist principles", it's technically neither Free nor Open Source software. As far as I know, both FSF and OSI explicitly require "no discrimination against persons or groups" for their approved licenses and bookwyrm's license doesn't seem to respect this.

@feditips @bookwyrm @inventaire @mouse wait what do you mean anyone except corporations? I like the idea in principle, but how do they expect to enforce that? If it's in their license, how do they define what counts as a corporation and therefore can't run a bookwyrm server?
