Agree its not network effects with Slack. More like brand recognition. "I know this, so I use it".

I love Matrix, and whole lotta other FOSS tools besides. But there's a whole mindset difference between more technical FOSS-oriented folks and the general public. We get a scary error and 5 mins. later we've overcome it. The average person is gone and made their mind up that the software is immature.
