Links such as YouTube, PeerTube, Bandcamp etc will embed automatically in Mastodon posts, just include the link in the post and publish.

Links to GIFs will also embed, and including a link to a GIF is the easiest way to insert GIFs on here.

Embedding may take a few minutes to happen, try refreshing the post later if it hasn't embedded straight away. Embeds may also look different (or not work at all) depending on which server or app you use to view a post.

I disagree. On Android, the easiest way to insert a gif is directly from the Gboard keyboard. Select and tap.

Don't assume we know what you mean. The word "embed" probably has history among Masto devs, but for us newbies it could mean anything from "attach" to "function" to "join a military group as a war journalist".

@feditips Thanks. I have an issue of losing my toots if I switch to another window before posting. I can literally see the Mastodon window slide upwards on my home screen and disappear. I'm constantly having to go back and redo my post and have learned to copy any texts. Suggestions?

@telepathypiper can you see the post this reply is linked to? I haven’t figured out yet how to bring a post to a particular person’s attention. The post is about embedding GIF or other video— it will do it by putting the URL into the post. The info is from @feditips #BTSArmyxMastodon #apobangpo
