@feditips looks like the Mastodon iOS app silently ignores audio attachments.

@tootapp supports it, and even has a trippy visualizer!

@feditips Not playing in my web browser. Chrome version 108.0.5359.125 on Windows 10. It appears to be there, but I hit the play button and nothing happens, the counter just stays at 00:00 and silence.

@feditips Tusky is unable to show the thumbnail and shows the alt text instead of that.

@feditips May be worth mentioning, that attaching 2 MB or even 40MB sound files is already putting extra load on your instance, by disk consumption as well as by dealing with copyright infringements. Since this isn't Twitter and most instances are free of charge, it might be best to keep that in mind before starting #musicmonday or something like that and have every account post tons of sound files. Try funkwhale for that!

@feditips What mastodon doesn't support is CORS policy for media files on cloud storage. This file no longer plays on my server after I boosted it. The error is from Google cloud storage. It says the CORS policy does not allow my server's domain access.

This makes sense, kind of. I imagine media sharing among federated content will be a big challenge to get right.

It is quite weird that #AltText is used in the place that audio's title and performer are expected to appear. But I suppose it would be just fine if people didn't forget to attribute with first line, or I'd just get used to spoilers. 🤭
