When you follow someone on Mastodon, you'll see their posts appear in your Home timeline.

Optionally, you can also receive a notification every time they post, in order to make sure you don't miss what they say.

To switch on notification, log in through your server's website, go to the person's profile page and click the 🔔 bell icon. (The official apps don't show this option yet, but some third party apps do.)

This only works for profiles you are following.

@feditips this is one of my favorite features. We gripe about "the algo" a lot here, but one thing the algo could do was help you see the accounts you were most interested in. I never saw my friends' posts until I started using the notify feature.

I didn't know the official Mastodon app didn't have it, but it's actually available on the website version.

@feditips
The web version shows it.
In experience the toots of "belled" follows arrive next in your timeline, not at the end. And all accounts "belled" are their own column

@feditips This fediverse/mastadon thing really isn’t made for casual users who just bop on from time to time via a phone app 😂

@feditips You can also put infrequent or much different timezone tooters in lists, to bring them up from being buried. I have lists for specific topics, geographic areas, & people I have a particular interest in. Out here in the middle of the Pacific I'm out of sync with a lot of folks.

@feditips I've found that some followed accounts do so much boosting that it interferes with my primary propose n following them and others.

I have to go into my profile for followers and suppress their boosts.

Maybe there's an easier way while viewing my timeline or the boosted item?
