If you're tired of the day's particular discourse, at least on the Mastodon web client (mobile or desktop), press the settings button in the upper right of your home timeline and turn off boosts globally. Turn it back on later when the discourse storm has passed.

What I've learned from having boosts off is that most of discourse is passed on via boosts. The people I follow directly will post about it some, but usually not enough to take over the timeline.

(Muting words is a good option too.)

@darius My feed today was stuffed with annoying (to me) #caturday posts so I finally added my first word blocker - works amazingly well!

@darius is mastodon now big enough that we have discourse every day ? Is there also main characters ? (Joke aside, it's interesting to see that maybe difference between twitter and mastodon was because of critical mass not reached)

@darius @thelaughingmuse Excellent advice. One thing I love about Mona is I can long-press a single word in a post and be given the option of muting that word without having to go through my settings page. Hella convenient. ๐Ÿ‘
