Ah I understand. For the kind of UX design (interaction design) I do, yes I'd agree it's harder to make independent contributions.
But it's not impossible.
Interaction design hypothetical example: there is a data input field in a form. It currently is a drop-down with 3 options.
It might make more sense to make that input field 3 radio buttons, or 3 checkboxes.
