There’s no question that the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were unspeakable tragedies. Although the exact death toll will never be truly known, it’s nearly certain that at least 200,000 people perished in the two attacks.

The Japanese were killing over 250,000 per month at that period of the war. Adding in the Japanese that would have died from famine before Japan would have finally surrendered in the following spring that's many millions of lives saved.
