To me social networking is what humans already do for thousands of years. It has gotten additional dimensions / possibilities provided by our modern technology. In that regard I see Signal as social networking tool. You can talk 1-to-1 or in groups while at physical distance, and catch up with friends, family or other people you know.

And just like when having these gatherings offline, you wouldn't them to be livestreamed in most case. Public/private.. all social networking
