Twitter stuff

@VictorVenema Having arrived about a day and a half ago, I certainly hope you're right. I do notice a lot of features that make good behaviour easier and bad behaviour harder—often little design details like seeing the CW button while posting.

But since we're all worried about losing our core Twitter network and trying to recreate it here, I feel there's a risk we end up only following Twitter people and don't encounter as much of the existing Mastodon culture as we might.

@feditips I didn't know about the Twitter part of that. Can you associate it with a Twitter account so as to reply to tweets too?

@feditips Can you explain the term "backfilled", please? I can see a number of things it might mean, but I'd like to know which it is . . .

@feditips I've been here a week now, and it seems to me that for a lot of newcomers the word "warning" is an obstacle to using CWs sensibly—I'm seeing a lot of "I don't see why my news stories need CWs, since they're what people follow me for and it's just ordinary news stuff" rather than "Hey, here's a handy 'show more' feature I can use so people just see the headline!"

@VictorVenema That's good to know (not sounding terrible). The terribleness would be if the existing community felt invaded by a crowd of people with no idea how to behave who were wrecking everything, I suppose. I'm very aware of not wanting to inadvertently do that, so I'm trying to keep an eye out for little bits of etiquette. The main one I've seen so far is liberal use of CWs for anything that might be annoying, not just upsetting. That's really helpful when reading.

@feditips Any idea how to do it on a hosted Wordpress blog? When I tried, the script was stripped out of the HTML, so I tried simply entering the URL (as can be done with tweets) and got this. The post appears, but with a huge amount of empty space.
