Try calling it a "filtered" list. As in posts from everyone on this list get filtered from the main feed, + only get seen when you look at this list.
1. As in your design, this property gets toggled on a per-list basis.
2. A given account could still be included on multiple lists (regardless of this setting).A
3. BONUS UX: Any per-user Block/Mute affordances get a prepopulated "Filter to..." action to choose a filtered list to join.

Good. Essentially, that account becomes a "soft follow" where you can see their stuff, but have to move away from your main feed to do so.
As a reminder of who's in that category, two UX suggestions:
1. Profile -- Adjacent to any private notes you've added, show "Filtered to: xxx, yyy"
2. Follows list -- Subtly change their avatar (decolorize? fade?) to remind you of their ghostly presence
But again, only you see these indicators.

Really? Given how the content filtering page is currently worded, that implication is a surprise to me. As written, it talks about contexts where copies of a given post do or don't get "hidden". Indeed, the words "as if" imply that the post isn't gone, you just don't see it in (some of) the usual context(s).
Indeed, I deliberately chose to reuse the concept of filtering because email (+ other) filters work exactly the way you want this to.

@dansup Wow. That's really jarring. The existing logo works because of the interplay between the colorful camera ring + how the negative space implies a playful, winking P.
Here all the visual attention goes to how that glaring white circle contrasts against a harsh black background. Demotes what's left of the logo to an anonymous afterthought (resembling a distorted comma?)
If you wanna lose the color for something starker, try aiming elsewhere for inspiration (Ansel Adams, Fan Ho, etc.)

@dansup I love the idea of steering people towards the "perfect mastodon community" for them, but faceting on aspects like scale or longevity seems rather indirect + impersonal.
Shouldn't the goal instead be to match folks up with a home community (+ thus suitable moderation policies) based on however they happen to primarily identify?
1. marginalized
2. interests
3. place-based
4. general

@dansup @pixelfed The startling thing for me is how much attention the upstart Kbin has gotten, compared to the more established Lemmy. Total user counts can get distorted by longevity, but MAUs tell a different story about what's been happening this month:
35,530 Kbin
26,803 Lemmy
14,182 Pixelfed
Obviously, the usual patterns of scalloped growth mean that the current surge will ebb, but ...
