@darius That makes sense.
Somebody from my server pointed out that I could just copy/paste the link of the toot from the other server and manually import it, and that worked just fine for my purposes.

@darius And I just want to make sure I have this part right...
What shows up in the federated timeline is all of the toots from the servers that host users that other users on your server follow?

@darius It's just been so long since I've encountered an issue like that I actually got nostalgic thinking about sync issues from the past. 馃槀

@darius I'm making an educated guess based on behavior I've seen in the past week that the answers to 1 and 3 are probably... a lot of 25 and younger.

@darius There's that aspect, too!
Though, I may have intentionally left that piece out because I've found it's often too much info to learn and process all at once for somebody who's brand new to all of us.
And that doesn't even touch on the issues that arise when you start considering that every group of people often has their own nuanced communication patterns, and sometimes those communication patterns do not translate well between each other....
Black folks talking about AAVE on Twitter taught me about the concept of linguistic code switching, but I didn't really consciously realize how much I code switch myself in different contexts.... like the difference between talking to a programmer vs. somebody who's less technical.

@dansup I'm so sorry to hear that your family did that and you are hurting.
I've only just started playing around a little bit with Pixelated, but I love what you've done so far. I'm very proud of you!

@darius Exactly. That's why it appealed to me.
I think a big part of the issue is a a key fact isn't getting communicated well to newcomers which is....
Mastodon isn't a social network.
It's software that enables individuals to make their OWN social networks that you can then choose to make interoperable with other social networks.
I think a lot of folks who would be otherwise interested in such a project are getting turned off as a whole by what amounts to "house rules" as set forth by the early adopters.
The next round of adoption is likely to be by communities that have different values, and may end up forming their own clusters based on whatever their house rules end up being.
