Too bad it's impossible to verify through a site without adding *another* plugin to the mountain of plugins we already have to manage.

WHY can't they validate using a simple file added to the domain, or even to text added to a page?

An hour of wasted time later, no way to make this work.

AGAIN I SAY TO MASTODON:

MAKE VALIDATION EASY AND WITHOUT VANDALIZING MY WORDPRESS SITE.

Why is this impossible.

DO NOT TELL ME "IT'S EASY JUST DO IT", because IT DOESN'T WORK.

From the "troubleshooting" guide:

> If there’s one without rel=”me”, for example in a dropdown menu, the verification process may fail.

Seriously?

> Bear in mind there may be some delay before your website address turns green on your profile

How the hell are you supposed to test it or know if you got it right? Tinkering this into working could take DAYS. Nobody who is doing anything has time for this stupidity.

> The website address can be case sensitive, so try typing it entirely in lower case.

WHICH website are we talking about - in the Mastodon account, or in the verification link text?

Again, I'm supposed to tinker, and WAIT - an indeterminate amount of time - to "see if it works".

This isn't a WORKING system. It's a kluge.

I love the rest of Mastodon, but this is just crap.

@feditips @lartsch

Unfortunately impossible to use on Ubuntu 16.04 because what it recognizes as "latest" Firefox is too old for this extension.
