@Gargron @atomicpoet @patrickstewart @icecubesapp @ivory A certain amount of interoperability for microblogging apps would be nice though, like using Pleroma on a Mastodon app.

Speaking of which, what name do you use to refer to the entire group of microblogging platforms, like when you want to talk about mastodon/pleroma/akkema/misskey/etc together, but not about pixelfed/peertube/etc? Is there a word for that?

Bluesky has announced that today they have started with federation, allowing anyone to host their own data on the network.

In a blog post they announced that anyone can now host their own PDS, framing it as a way to control your own data, and also explaining how it differs from Mastodon.

Bluesky describes it as an 'early access of federation for self-hosters'.

@dansup Love your work on fedidb Daniel! Considering how much that project is now growing in scope/importance, would it maybe be an idea to make an official fedi account for it? I'm trying to keep track of all the changes and plans youre making for it, and its quite a lot at this point.

@dansup Seems right to me. Mastodon.social trumps everything in the daily server signups on @mastodon_daily_active_users , but when I check from which server new followers for me come from, only a very small percentage is from m.s. Ofcourse new followers =/= new signups, and n=1 etc.

@darius Cool! Very interested in reading that. One of the reasons why I wanted to write this time capsule is that I observed this issue with language, and that people feel like the proper terms are missing sometimes. Adding to that, with a proper distinction of how Mastodon is not a platform will definitely help!

@dansup Think its quite powerful actually. Helps show people that software is not made by faceless corporations that only speak in marketing language, but by actual normal people.

Plus you get to see the excitement when a project updates launches, instead of just a laundry list of patch notes, which is also way more fun!

I do have a seperate account for more casual shitposting though, so I dont clog up peoples timeline's too much haha
