I rarely talk about how tough this job can be, since I feel responsibility to only associate positive things with the project. But it is a lot of responsibilities, and a lot of stress, for what can sometimes feel like inadequate pay.

I am sorry - but not entirely surprised - to read this.
There is no such thing as happy24/7 (not without illegal means, and detriment to other aspects of your life). Being honest about all sides of it is fine with us here, I hope!
I am a bit smug about having been a Patreon of yours since early days, but I also know that this is not enough.
Please let us know what we can do to support you better?

@Gargron The definition of a hero: doing a hard job nobody wants to do and at great personal cost. Thanks so much. Will find out quickly how to support you, I assume Patreon or similar schemes are in place. Civil society is only as strong as citizens make it be.

I decided to support @Mastodon on Patreon at $10/mo because I believe in open source development and keeping the Internet free and open to the public, not controlled by a for-profit company. People who can’t pay, should not have to. Those that can, please consider doing so and let’s build a better platform together. You now it is true. With a normal working day and without the extra responsibility you'd get 2-3 times the amount in the industry, and with the extra responsibility it should be up to 5x.
