Have you ever needed to send money to someone urgently? ๐Ÿ’ธ

Our new proposal aims to make payments in euros instant for anyone with a bank account in any EU or EEA country, at no extra cost compared to a regular money transfer.

The switch from "next day transfers" to "transfers in ten seconds" is comparable to the switch from mail to email.

@EU_Commission Also nice would be to stop banks from charging money for transfers from euro banks to euro banks.

@EU_Commission You mean, like Swish? Just have all banks adopt it and youโ€™re done.

@EU_Commission Iโ€™ve always hated brexit but now the EU is using memes, my hatred of it is doubled.

Having said that, as a UK resident at least I still have the UK government to provide satire-as-a-reality.

@EU_Commission I really respect the EU and how it constantly works to make life more humane and livable for its citizens. No similar efforts exist in America

@EU_Commission

Just to temper everybody's enthusiasm somewhat, the banks have of course made lots of money from next-day money transfers, which they're going to try and recoup elsewhere. Nevertheless, it is an overdue change.

@EU_Commission Yes, and?

#Revolut already has instant transfers and it works. My Austrian bank has a switch that one has to explicitly use to get instant transfer, which is a sham. And the one my wife uses apparently hasn't even implemented it. There is no excuse for this.

Give the banks six months to implement the instant money transfers system. Make it expensive for those that don't. And publish a white and black list so that we know which banks to use.
