Yet, the Fediverse doesn't allow us to support community concepts all that well. Communities are implied.. your Instance is a community. Your Followers are.

Group support is added to many fedi apps, but it is modeled after corporate Social Media.. quite limited. It is not social networking that's as rich as in daily life.

A technological support of Community in would be Actors having meaningful Relationships to other Actors. Modeled as AP extension.

This is a relatively simple model, which is great because then it can be a universal building block.

Some types of Relationship might be standardized, like ParentOf, ChildOf, etc. Others may be entirely app-specific.

And you can model AP extensions on top of Community, e.g. by having Policies and then model Community Governance with those.

I really have high hopes for Bonfire ( @bonfire) in this regard :) Bonfire seems to be built exactly to empower people as part of multiple communities. Mastodon focusses on an individual, and empowers that individual to relate to all others in the fediverse. But as an individual, not as a community.
