@feditips I've done this. You know who you are :)

@feditips this is a helpful tip. I'm new to Mastadon and trying to better understand the culture here. Which I have to say I prefer over other platforms. I take it boosting is regarded as something to be soaring to moderate in its use?

@feditips Is there anything for people who post way too often, and you want to see their high quality boosts but not their posts?

@feditips

This is me! I boost almost everything. I was told when I first started here that "liking" does nothing except let the person know you saw their post. To get people to see anything or show appreciation for a post, boost it. So it's a habit. Good bad or ugly, I boost everything I like 😁

@feditips I'd love it if I could digest some people. If a person posts very frequently, there posts get consolidated into a digest every few hours or something.

@feditips

Even if you do this, you will likely see redundant boosts that still clog your timeline.

@feditips

Ironically, I saw this because someone boosted it

@feditips Mastodon's latest update (4.2) has two great new ways to handle prolific boosters.

1. Filter out boosts on their profile by selecting the Posts & Replies tab to display posts & replies but NOT boosts.

2. Separate prolific boosters from your home feed by adding them to a list (I have a list called Boosters). Edit the list by clicking on the toggle to "Hide these posts from home." You can open your Boosters list at any time to see what you've been missing.

@feditips

I've tried this and it doesn't work for me. Boosts are still shown from the user that I enabled the "hide boosts from..." option.

@feditips is there a way to hide boosts *of*? If I follow someone and they post something that is boosted by several other people I follow, I end up seeing it 4-5 times on the same day. Very tedious. I only want to see it once!

@feditips Yeah, I suspect a not-insignificant number of my own followers have already done this to me and more will do so after my boosting this Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

@feditips is there an option to block just if they boost themselves?

@feditips

Here you go my 125 followers. I know I mostly just boost.

@feditips But in Mastodon, it's the only way to get more visibility for something you agree with and think is important. Alternative is to like and comment.
