I don't think Mastodon or the fediverse has ever received this much attention before. It's a great opportunity for people to finally see that social media can be done differently, that it can be a protocol not under control of any single company.

@Gargron is there a public roadmap somewhere? How's funding? Will this project survive if a VC funded startup uses the same architecture but makes it more user friendly?

@Gargron are there instructions lol? I am struggling

@Gargron Why is it that on your instance the only thing I can see is the message "To use the Mastodon web application, please enable JavaScript…" while I haven't encountered this "bug" on other instances? Here I was thinking the internet was about the transfer of information but little did I know that this apparently "requires" JavaScript while I have been disabling JavaScript in my browser for ages to protect my security and privacy. How foolish of me...

@Gargron Thanks. I was active here in 2019, then resumed being on the bird site. Am so happy you peeps have stuck with your original idea and I can see the fediverse expanding every hour.

@Gargron Thank you for all that you are doing. I know it can be really challenging to scale well especially given the influx of us from birdland.

@Gargron well… before Facebook and Twitter we had Usenet and irc, social media that was independent of big corporations. Then the users moved to the corporates of their own free will.

@Gargron The more people, the more a**holes. That’s the unwritten law of social media. So enjoy the time while Mastodon still has relatively few users.

@Gargron
Mike Masnick was convinced of the protocols-not-platforms approach three years after you started Mastadon: knightcolumbia.org/content/pro

@Gargron this is the part I love…not under control of any one person.

@Gargron this might be a very basic question, but I can’t seem to find certain users through the search function.

Am I a silly potato or is there a reason for that that I am too new to understand? :welp:

@Gargron thank you so much or what you have done here Eugen and the Times interview was awesome! BTW .. how do we little people support the server.. is there a patreon for mastodon.social? AND for the software so we can back its continued improvement.. in a crowd sourcing kinda way. Thanks again!

@Gargron Didn’t even realize what freedom felt like in other socials until I joined @Mastodon 🥹

@Gargron question: what happens if the instance where I have my account suddenly closes down? Do I lose everything?

@Gargron The vast majority of the non-tech people that are trying Mastodon aren't liking it, as it seems to complex. Not being under the control of a single entity is perceived as a complexity factor.

@Gargron I've been preaching the theory of distributed or federated social media for a while now ( snell-pym.org.uk/archives/2018 ) so I'm really excited to see it being tested in practice - I hope it continues to grow so we can see it in the mainstream, and really demonstrate a better way to build community online! #fediverseorbust

@Gargron A weird thing (at least for me) is that more people boost than favourite the posts 🤔
