But thats not my argument either. My plea is for us to organize in a way where we are stronger to withstand these forces, and to so while keeping our grassroots nature and culture intact.

We on the think that such organization isn't needed. That things go organically and the pieces of the puzzle fit together all by themself. I argue this is not the case.

This ethereal substrate of people + processes is "centralized", our common denominator.

We need a "foundation stone" upon which our fedi rests.

One point I want to bring across, and here I am directing towards #NGI and should maybe include @EC_OSPO ..

Technical innovation projects in themselves aren't enough. They do not foster a healthy substrate. For this substrate we entirely rely on volunteers doing work out of the kindness of their hearts. But there's a lot of work.

Funding in this area should also be part of #EU policies!

@humanetech @bob @Bernard @NGIZero @EC_NGI @dachary Having an organization to maintain standards requires at least enough capital to have full time staff. At present that's not something that we have. When you look at how it works for other internet standards it always comes down to something like BigTech stuffing the board of directors with the money ultimately coming from advertising.
