@dansup @pixelfed so what about the default being a randomized selection between all of the generalized instances that already pass your criteria for inclusion? maybe with a filter for language that changes that list of generalized to the language of the chooser (cause a general instance in japanese isnt a useful default for someone who doest speak japanese)

@dansup @liaizon @pixelfed But you mentioned "issues people have with outdated or broken instances", and that doesn't seem to be addressed by the policies in these screenshots.

If that's the main reason you're considering one default instance instead of a round robin of default instances, then perhaps you could add some pace of updating software to the pledge? Or you could do some additional curation if you receive reports an instance is broken?
