We are taking our cooperation with Egypt to the level of a Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership.

The partnership covers 6 common priorities:
πŸ”Ή Political relations
πŸ”Ή Economic stability
πŸ”Ή Investment and trade
πŸ”Ή Migration and mobility
πŸ”Ή Security
πŸ”Ή People and skills

To underpin it, the EU is proposing a €7.4 billion financial and investment support package for Egypt for 2024-2027.

@EU_Commission Egypt is ran by a dictator, whose secret services killed an Italian student, Giulio Regeni, and many more people who stand against the regime face the same fate. I don't want to use my taxes to support this.

@EU_Commission I think we should have truth and justice on Giulio Regeni's kidnapping, tortures and assassination, before sign any agreement with Egypt and before send them any money.

@EU_Commission what a shameful announcement. Shaking hands and taking pictures with a murderer.

@EU_Commission From a first glance, this seems like a backwards move.

But from a geopolitical standpoint, getting Egypt on the side of the EU instead of allying with Russia is extremely valuable. (Especially with both the Suez Canal and the events happening in Palestine on Egypt's doorstep).
