@Gargron How am I to verify myself with a YouTube-Channel? Not possible. But YT is where I'm known from. Everyone can claim to be me.

Besides, personal verification will be an issue on every platform, until it is solved.

@Gargron @manniac @stephenfry I’d also agree, as someone who understands the need for people to be able to verify themselves but not the arbitrary nature of who is important enough to deserve external verification and who isn’t, I love the way this works.

Yes and no.

Current Mastodon verification is just proving you own a website, but just because Bob owns CoolShrimp.com doesn't mean he's verifiable.

This is where Twitter's Verification shined (sort of); notable people could prove who they say they were and got verification. And when you can have shared usernames across the Fediverse, you need some way to verify the official ones from the unofficial.

@Gargron @manniac @stephenfry while you on this thread, is there a way I can prevent having to verify my email every time I use the app? I now go through Ecosia to avoid using the app🤦‍♀️
