@tychi I guess the one thing that I find extremely advantageous about the server-bound model is it ties groups in with the legal and social consequences they face (everyone on a given server is under the same moderation rules, terms of service, legal regime in which their content is hosted). I like that it makes the internet into a thing where you *have* to think about the materiality of the data

@darius this is a really great point. i think my main hangup with it though— when there’s a “this instance isn’t big enough for the two of us” scenario, one person needs to make a new account somewhere else, which might be desirable in some situations, but more often the person leaving will be in a more marginalized category, otherwise they’d be the one staying.
