GoToSocial is a new lightweight Fediverse server type intended for small self-hosted servers running on low-powered hardware. GTS accounts can be followed from Mastodon and vice versa.

It also has a strong emphasis on user safety, with an option under development for using allowlists for federation instead of blocklists.

@feditips Another – seemingly similar project – I stumbled upon is **Takahe**: github.com/jointakahe/takahe

@feditips and they just landed a new major version, the v0.7.1 ! 🚀
It advancing fast for such a small project and is already feature complete on most of the basics.

Actually this one is more of an hotfix of the real major one, 0.7.0, but it doesn't matter :)
@gotosocial kudos !

@feditips @gotosocial I'm very likely going to switch to a small, self-hosted instance on a RPi or similar device sometime in the not-too-distant future. This looks like a great project to keep an eye on.

@feditips @gotosocial If only it had a good universal way to install it from the zip file without jumping through 30 hoops only to find out it's not compatible with Apache/cPanel stuff. #tried
