In case you missed it, Mastodon now lets you edit posts 🥳

You can edit any post you've made, and it will send a notification to people who have already interacted with it to prevent any hijinks or shenanigans. It also lets people see the previous versions.

You can access it through your server's website and some third party apps, for example iPhone/iPad app Toot! and Android app Fedilab.

(The official app doesn't yet support it, so it's another good reason to check out third party apps.)

@feditips How do I follow on all sites? There’s people back on Twitter who can’t work out how to use Mastodon.

@feditips Thanks for the tip about Toot! @tootapp. I really like it! On the Mac I'm still using the web browser. Do you have some tips for a third party client on the Mac?

@feditips doesn't seem to be in Tusky for Android yet either. Not sure if it requires your server to be on a very I version either, so it could be that. I think mine is still 4.01

@feditips I like it that the screenshot you used to explain the 'edit' feature helped me find Ron Gilbert, the creator of the adventure games, Monkey Island. Thanks!

@feditips Yes, I noticed I could zip into my web browser to fix typos. :) A badly needed feature for me.

@feditips I use the web app... Just the mobile version of Mastodon. There's been an edit option since I've used it.

@feditips So sorry to necro a super old post, but this is to top search result for how edit notifications work on Mastodon and I just want to clarify that "You can edit any post you've made, and it will send a notification to people who have already interacted with it to prevent any hijinks or shenanigans." is incorrect.

When posts are edited, ONLY PEOPLE WHO BOOSTED A POST ARE NOTIFIED. Other intractions such as favoriting and replying do not seem to trigger a notification, at least on stock Mastodon v4.2.1.
