What shows up in the federated timeline is all of the toots from the servers that host users that other users on your server follow?

@nikkiana not exactly. What shows up in the federated timeline is every public, listed post that your server *knows about*. So you follow me. I boost a post from an account nobody follows on your server. That post will appear in both your timeline and also in the federated timeline of your server
