I think Mastodon should rename 'instances' to 'Communities'

Instances feels too technical, and I see even savvy people struggling to understand it.

I argue communities would make much more sense. It denotes much of the purpose behind 'why' this service has different instances, and many people will already be familiar with the concept.

I appreciate your work!

But now there are tens of thousands of people on mastodononline who are NEW users :mastodon: and don't know what's going on :blobugh:

It would be good to make some kind of official #notification (or at least a post) to all #mastodononline users with information when they can expect the #server to be up and running again, or at least that it's still down....

@Gargron l can’t see followers of the people I know, I keep getting the “mastodon followers from other servers cannot be seen” message. For example I like celebrity news so I’m trying to curate my feed with celebrity info like I had with my twitter friends but I can’t see their friends so i can’t build up my network here? Is there an option to use a general ‘all servers’ filter?
