There's a Fediverse alternative to called . More info at kbin.pub

Still VERY new, not many servers yet, two so far in English:

fedia.io
kbin.social

No app yet, use it through these sites. Subreddits are called "Magazines". You can interact with magazines from other servers.

Coders help Kbin at codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core, non-coders donate at buymeacoffee.com/kbin

(Sorry to people bored of this, had many requests to put info in one place)

@feditips What is peoples' oppinion about Lemmy? Both seem to be viable alternatives right now, not sure about cross plattform federation between the two though.

@feditips is there somewhere I can read about what motivated kbin as a separate project to Lemmy?

@feditips
Still trying to figure this shit out. How do things like #kbin or #lemmy or #feddit interact with my brand new account here?

In my dream world, I would subscribe to such a "Magazin" and get it posted on my home feed. And to discover new stuff, I could simply search for a keyword and get a fitting magazine or community recommended.

@feditips Hey Fedi.Tips, do I need to make a separate Fedi account on kbin.social if I want to post or comment, or is there a way to do it with my mastodon account?

@feditips I made a lemmy account about like a month ago and now I'm wondering if I should switch to kbin. The problem was the lack of reddit alternatives before but now....

@feditips It seems Kbin is having issues with loading due to the increase in traffic. Kicking around here in Mastadon for now

@feditips Still wrapping my head around the fediverse -- went over to kbin thinking "aw man is Lemmy already obsolete to me" only to see most of the top posts are from Lemmy.

Kind of breaks my mental model of all the content I care about living inside a single domain/front-end, but in the best way.

It's awesome that federation is breaking down the "many walled gardens" norm of Web 2.0 -- has me very excited for the future!

@feditips hopefully sometime today there will be a third english one, all depends on weather I can make sense of the docs :kitty_yikes:

but if I do it'll be at fedi196.gay

@feditips Isn't kbin a fork of lemmy?

@feditips Kbin is great so far! Unfortunately it's getting absolutely hammered with traffic and is rather unusable at the moment. I'm really looking forward to it maturing as a project though. It fills all my needs for a reddit alternative while having the nicest community

@feditips wait, what's a Fediverse?

@feditips Is this much different from Lemmy? I know it's the same general idea, but are there any significant differences between them?

@feditips check spam folders for activation email. Didn't notice that until a day later. Now my email is locked. Can't reset the password bc it's not verified. Can't verify bc the email is already used. I'm stuck.

@feditips Any difference between fedia.io and kbin.social ? I mean I signed up for fedia.io and it seems to be pretty cool!

@feditips Kbin is great, but I know they are struggling to keep up with the growth. Sticking with them as it's the closest I've seen to the Reddit experience and will only get better as it grows.
