Did you know Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony – and the Ode to Joy therein – was picked as our anthem in 1985?

As we celebrate his birthday today, we pay tribute to this brilliant European whose music evokes the noble aspirations of a Europe of , unity, and solidarity.

Music unites, inspires, moves .

Wow, So many Thanks for this.
It's things like this that assures me that we do indeed, in spite of the present darkness, have a bright future after all.
This is assured by the presence of so many young people participating.
Again... Thanks.

@EU_Commission So at the minute mark it starts to change and I’m surprised and impressed 😁 Then at 2:01 people start to sing and (not in any way a criticism of them) but when used by the EU as an anthem is WITHOUT LYRICS! Therefore this isn’t at all the European Union Anthem it’s just a performance of part of Symphony No. 9.

This music unites, inspires, moves ... and also makes me weep for what we lost in the UK.
