I actually did some amount of graduate level electrical engineering (my original intended profession) and so I can speak at length about potential energy across the P/N boundary in a piece of doped silicon and how that results in transistor B/C/E behavior.

I actually have taught a few people how computing works *starting* with semiconductor physics and moving to binary representations and truth tables and then state machines from there... I love nerding out about this stuff!
